Barefoot Contessa is an American cooking show aired on November 30, 2002, on the Food Network. Guided by celebrity chef Ina Garten, each episode features Garten composing a wide range of complexities. Although his specialty is French cuisine, he occasionally prepares American, Asian, English and Italian food. The show also provides tips on decoration and entertainment.
The event title, which comes from the Italian word for countess, was originally used by Garten in his best-selling cookbook, The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook (1999). The cookbook is in turn named after the Garten specialty shop, which he bought already named in 1978. The shop, which is no longer in operation, was opened in 1975 and named after 1954 film of the same name. Garten sells stores to employees before closing.

Ikhtisar
The Garten show features the preparation of a multi-course meal, usually for close friends, coworkers or husband, Jeffrey. The recipe often includes fresh herbs, which he harvests from his backyard garden. The table setting includes simple and elegant dishes, and is often accompanied by a flower of its own or brought by Michael Grim, a friend and local florist who often performs on shows.
Garten deconstructed an elaborate French recipe such as boeuf bourguignon or Baba au Rhum cake. She focuses on preparing food efficiently, allowing more time to spend with the guests.
The show is primarily recorded at Garten's home in East Hampton, New York and features fast-moving and closeup camera shots (eg, perfectly ripe fruits, fallen eggs from shells, or melted and hissing caramel sauce in a shining steel pan ).
