History
The original, open-air mall was built by Sol Atlas and opened in 1960, anchored by W. & amp; J. Sloane furniture store and Stop & amp; The supermarket store is on the opposite end. In 1962, the sixth branch of the department store chain Alexander was opened. After the initial fire at the west end of the mall, Caldor's discount store was built as a new anchor.
In 1981, the mall was closed. The mall underwent a renovation in 1990 that added the Skyview Cafe food court, and lost Alexander's anchor.
The mall strongly opposed the New Haven Galleria mall proposal on Long Wharf, filed more than 15 lawsuits.
The expansion project of $ 118 million 480,000 square feet (45,000 m 2 ) occurred in 2005-06, adding:
- additional parking levels
- 75,000 square feet (7,000 m 2 ) floor down to Macy's
- large expansion into a 55,000-square-foot movie building (5100 m 2 ) (Connecticut Post 14, replacing Milford Fourplex, previously located in the adjacent building De Lux, then Rave Cinemas, now Cinemark ), a new food court, and two more anchors, Dick's Sporting Goods and Target.
In December 2015, Westfield sold Connecticut Post in a $ 1.1 billion deal involving 5 malls.
On March 17, 2017, it was announced that JCPenney would close their store as part of a company that closes 138 stores nationwide. The store closes on July 31, 2017. On January 11, 2018, it was announced that Boscov will open in the former JCPenney room in October 2018. Dave and Busters also announced it will open in the mall by the end of 2018.
