A slide is a different form of footwear than shoes and is similar to flip flops. They have no back and open, basically an open donkey. Generally, all slides are slippers. Thongs and flip-flops are usually classified separately. Slides can be either high heel, heeled or somewhere in between, and can cover almost the entire leg from ankle to toe, or may have only one or two narrow ropes. They usually include a single rope or string strap across the toes and the bottom of the foot to hold shoes in the legs. The term is descriptive in that the shoe is easy to 'glide' on and off the foot when the wearer wants to do it. The slides are currently trending due to the desire for more comfortable shoes that still allow participation in activities and sports.
