Histori

1890-1926: Karl Friedrich Gegauf dan penemuan mesin jahit hemstitch

Today Bernina International AG was founded by Karl Friedrich Gegauf in 1893, when he decided to continue his apprenticeship as a mechanic instead of studying medicine. After completing his internship program, he worked at Baum's embroidery machine factory in Rorschach. In 1890, Karl Friedrich Gegauf founded his own business in Steckborn, Switzerland, opened a mechanical and embroidery workshop for his own invention, a monogram embroidery machine. Together with his brother, Georg, a salesman, Karl Friedrich manages the company GebrÃÆ'¼der Gegauf (Bros. Gegauf). Through his involvement in the textile industry, he realized how difficult it is to produce hemstitching, which until then can only be done manually. As a result, in 1893, Karl Friedrich Gegauf invented the world's first hemstitch sewing machine, capable of sewing 100 stitches per minute. In 1895, Bros. workshop. Gegauf is completely destroyed by fire, except for the prototype of a hemstitch sewing machine, which is the only thing that can be saved. Karl Friedrich built a new workshop in an old barn, where the focus is no longer on embroidery, but on the construction of a hemstitch sewing machine. About 70 people are employed in the production of a series of hemstitch sewing machines. The mechanical production of hemstitching, whether as an ornament for handkerchiefs, tablecloths, or bed sheets, is often referred to as "gegaufing", since the name Gegauf is well known in the industry.

1926-1947: Fritz Gegauf and development of household sewing machines Bernina first

In 1919, Fritz Gegauf, one of Karl's sons, along with his father, applied for a patent for "Wotan" hemstich sewing machine, which became another international success for the company, which changed its name to "Fritz Gegauf". After being in Paris selling the company's can opener, which has no market in Switzerland, he returns to his hometown. His brother Gustav and he took over the factory after the death of their father in 1926. During the Great Depression, Fritz Gegauf joined the embroidery factory, BrÃÆ'¼tsch & amp; Sohn in St. Petersburg Gallen, which also operates in red. By the end of 1932, they had developed the company's first household sewing machine, which they named Bernina. The Bernina was soon produced as sewing-furniture, which required the construction of a new furniture factory installed at Steckborn. On October 26, 1937, a total of 20,000 machines had left the plant at Steckborn. In 1937, he introduced the first Bernina zigzag machine and in 1945 the world's first portable zigzag machine on the market. In 1947, Gustav Gegauf left the company. By mid 1963, a million sewing machines Bernina zigzag had been produced at Steckborn. Since then, the company is commonly called Bernina, though, since 1947, its official name is "Fritz Gegauf Aktiengesellschaft, Bernina NÃÆ'¤hmaschinenfabrik".

1959-1988: Odette Gegauf-Ueltschi and fully automatic stitching machine

Since 1959, Odette Ueltschi, daughter of Fritz Gegauf, took the lead role in Bernina. He took over management after the death of his brother in 1965. In 1963, Bernina's first sewing machine with a patented knee patent 730, appeared on the market. From 1963 onwards, the next model, 730, was produced, and in the same year, a Bernina million sewing machine was produced. The top sellers of all models are the 830 class, which began production in 1971 and continued until 1981. In 1981, the company took a further step in the development of household sewing machines. The 930 model is the first machine with a stretch-stitch function. Followed by 1130, the first automatic sewing machine, 1130, was launched in 1986. The eternal mark left by Odette Gegauf-Ueltschi in the company is reflected from the name of the line bartette sewing machine, formed by a combination of the first half of the brand name and the second half of the name he gave.

1988-2009: Hanspeter Ueltschi and the first sewing machine, market expansion and production

Hanspeter Ueltschi took over the management of Fritz Gegauf AG in 1988 from his mother Odette Gegauf-Ueltschi, and currently runs the company as the owner and chairman of the board of directors. After studying business administration at St. University Gallen, Ueltschi spent seven years gaining professional experience in the US before entering the leadership of a family company in Switzerland. Ueltschi is increasingly expanding its leading position in the sewing machine technology sector, lowering production costs, and promoting product innovation and marketing. He ushers the computer age into business with artista 180, Bernina's first sewing machine, and ensures continuous development and optimization of computer technology in the field of sewing, as demonstrated by artista models, and aurora series. As such, he makes a step towards the goals he stated to make sewing more interesting and more popular around the world. Under the leadership of Hanspeter Ueltschi, a manufacturing outlet was set up in Thailand, in addition to the parent plant at Steckborn. He is also responsible for building the US as a major market and expanding into new markets in Eastern Europe, Russia, South America, and India, as well as in the Middle East. He renamed "Fritz Gegauf AG" to "Bernina International AG" to accommodate the trend toward globalization and the company's brand success and at the same time, Ueltschi incorporated the Swiss flag into the corporate logo as a sign of patriotism. Connecting to the 830, Bernina's most successful model of the 1970s, the new B830, in 2008 and his brother's model, B820, in 2009, was introduced as the most up-to-date sewing machine of the brand to date, with a total of 15 patents filed for the new B830.
