A blood blister is a type of blister that forms when subdermal tissue and blood vessels are damaged without piercing the skin. It consists of puddles of lymph, blood and other body fluids trapped beneath the skin. If impaled, it will release a dark liquid. Sometimes the fluid is cut off from the rest of the body and dries up, leaving the cell material dead in the blisters with a texture like putty. Some blood blisters can be very painful because of the bruises in which the blisters occur.

There is also an aneurysm as blood blister because it is known to be located in the supraclinoid internal carotid artery and has been recognized to have unique pathological and clinical features.

Cause

Blood blisters are generally caused by accidents where the skin is squeezed by a tool, mechanism, or heavy load without a protective device. Blisters of blood can also arise from forced human contact, including wrestling.

Blisters of blood can also occur with friction caused by constant skin rubbing against the surface. Therefore, baseball pitchers, rowers, and drummers often make blood blisters on the fingers and palms. They are also formed as a result of frostbite.

Blisters of blood can also occur in the mouth for various reasons including, but not limited to, side effects against certain drugs, nutritional deficiencies, and oral injuries.
