Frances Hardman Conroy (born November 13, 1953) is an American actress. He is best known for playing Ruth Fisher on the Six Feet Under television series. His work on the show won praise and several awards, including the Golden Globe and three Screen Actors Guild Awards. He is also known for playing the old version of Moira O'Hara in the season of one of the American Horror Story television anthology series, which garnered his first Conroy Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress nominated Television, and as an Emmy nominee for Supporting Actress Achieving in a Mini or Movie Series. Conroy later described The Angel of Death, Myrtle Snow, Gloria Mott, Mama Polk and Bebe Babbitt in the next five seasons of the Asylum show, the Coven , Freak Show , Roanoke and Cult , respectively. Conroy and fellow star Lily Rabe have appeared in most of the show's seasons after Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson. For his performance at Coven , he was nominated again for the Emmy Primetime Award for Outstanding Actress in Serial Mini or Film.

During the 1970s, he appeared regularly with regional theater companies and tours (especially The Acting Company), and appeared as Desdemona at Delacorte Theater in the production of Othello with Richard Dreyfuss and Raul Julia.
