Christopher "Chris" Messina (born August 11, 1974) is an American film actor and director. He has appeared in supporting roles in movies like Vicky Cristina Barcelona , Argo , Julie & amp; Julia, Ruby Sparks, Celeste and Jesse Forever, and You've Got Mail. He won critical acclaim for a major performance in the movie The Giant Mechanical Man. On television, he is known for his role as Chris Sanchez in Damage , Reese Lansing in the Newsroom and as Danny Castellano in The Mindy Project .

Life and career
Messina was born in Northport, New York. He studied theater in high school, and attended Marymount Manhattan College, but dropped out after a semester. He studied acting personally with teachers around Manhattan, and began his career as an actor outside Broadway. She has appeared on episodes of the television series Law & amp; Messages , Third Hour , and Medium . He has a recurring role in the fifth and final season of the HBO drama series Six Feet Under as Ted Fairwell. Movie credits include Rounders , Siege , You've Got Mail , and Towelhead .
He starred in the HBO Anatomy of Hope pilot, directed by J. J. Abrams. Simon Callow also starred, but the pilot was not appointed to the series. In October 2007,
Messina joined the players of Damages for the fourth and fifth seasons. He plays recurring characters in HBO's The Newsroom . Messina is a regular series on the upstream sitcom The Mindy Project , playing Dr. Danny Castellano.
In 2014, Messina plays the role of an affair couple in the music video for Sam Smith's "I'm Not the Only One". That same year, he directed an independent drama, Alex of Venice , starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Don Johnson and Matthew Del Negro.
He co-starred in the Ben Affleck friend drama Live by Night , released in December 2016.
Personal life
Messina married actress Rosemarie DeWitt from 1995 to 2006. Messina and producer Jennifer Todd has two sons, Milo and Giovanni, born in 2008 and 2009, respectively. Messina is a Democrat.
